Freeman Lau is chairman of the Board of Directors, Hong Kong Design Centre. He is responsible for spearheading Hong Kong Design Centre's flagship annual event for the international design community, the Business of Design Week. In addition to his role at Hong Kong Design Centre, Freeman is a partner at Kan & Lau Design Consultants.
Freeman has more than twenty years of experience in communication design. His achievements include an award-winning bottle design for Watson's Water, which significantly boosted the brand's market share and was recognised in the international "Bottledwaterworld Design Awards." In the same year, his work was awarded "Chair of the Year" in the Chair Design Competition of Barrie Ho Collections. Both successes showcased Freeman's flair for merging business considerations with artistic design and culture.
Within and beyond his commercial projects, Freeman is focused on enhancing the identity of Hong Kong design overseas and promoting design education. His contributions were recently recognised by the Hong Kong SAR Government, which awarded him the Bronze Bauhinia Star. He is currently secretary general of the Hong Kong Federation of Design Associations and a member of the Design Management Institute Advisory Council.
Since 1984, he has won over 300 awards in overseas and local art and design competitions. He received an Outstanding Alumni award from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, of which he is a graduate.
