Business of Design Week (BODW), now in its fifth year, has become one of the most significant annual events on the international design calendar, attracting high calibre speakers and respected participants representing the best of the global design industry. They come together to share their experiences and visions for the future of brand, design and innovation.
A week-long celebration of design excellence and innovation, BODW last year alone attracted thousands of participants from more than 25 countries, as well as more than 70 high calibre speakers from across the design spectrum. Past speakers have included fashion designer Vivienne Tam, inventor James Dyson, renowned designer, restaurateur and retailer Sir Terence Conran, and architecture gurus Daniel Libeskind, Frank Gehry and Philippe Starck.
Since 2002, Hong Kong has played host to this gathering of thought leaders from design and academic spheres, government and private sectors, who come to exchange ideas and share their experiences. The focus on the intricate relationship between business and design sets BODW apart from other design-related events and has helped build the internationally regarded platform for networking, business sharing and knowledge building that is today's BODW.
The vision of BODW is to promote the use and value of good design and to encourage business to unleash the power of design. Its main event, the BOD Asia international conference, focuses on the importance of robust design industries for economic and cultural growth. Meanwhile, the outreach programmes, concurrent conferences (Brand Asia, DesignEd Asia, Inno Asia), exhibitions (ID Expo) and Design for Asia (DFA) Award presentations that together comprise the six day programme echo this theme and showcase a range of perspectives on the value of design to international audiences and the general public.
A highlight of the annual BODW programme is the Design for Asia (DFA) Award, presented at the HKDC Annual Award Gala Dinner to selected winners who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to promoting design excellence and have generated business success through good design.
BODW is organised by Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC) and funded by the Hong Kong SAR Government's Innovation and Technology Commission.
